Why a wallet recurring top-up doesn't generate an invoice

Last updated: July 10, 2026

If a recurring wallet top-up rule is configured to add granted credits, Lago won't generate an invoice, regardless of the amount. Only top-ups using paid credits produce an invoice. A newly created recurring rule also doesn't fire immediately, it fires on the next anniversary of the rule's start date based on the configured interval.

How it works

Lago distinguishes paid credits, which represent a charge to the customer and generate a billing event and invoice when added to a wallet, from granted credits, which are free credits added to the wallet balance with no associated charge and therefore no invoice.

How to confirm the cause

Check the wallet top-up rule settings. If granted_credits is set and paid_credits is zero or absent, no invoice will be generated. Also confirm the rule hasn't fired yet: for a quarterly interval, the first top-up occurs on the same calendar date one quarter after the rule's start date.

How to resolve the issue

If an invoice is required for the top-up, update the recurring rule to use paid_credits instead of granted_credits. If granted credits are intentional, the absence of an invoice is expected behavior.
